Talent Box Software Updates in July & August 2019

Below are the July & August 2019 changes to the Talentbox.app Student and Teacher sites that are used by schools.

Changes that only affect Empow Studios staff will be marked [Empow only].

Student site — learn.talentbox.app

• Alphabetization – Tracks on the learning dashboard are now in alphabetical order, making for easier navigation.
• Duplicate badges – A bug was fixed which had caused certain badges to appear multiple times in the portfolio.
• 100% Completion – Tracks where the student has viewed all resources and received a manual badge assignment by their teacher are now properly marked as 100% complete.

Teacher site — teach.talentbox.app

• Auto-track-assignment – New teachers in the Talent Box system are now automatically assigned all default tracks.  This makes it simpler for teachers new to the system to get started.  To unsubscribe from a track, go to the first tab “Tracks Library”, click a track, and select “Remove from my tracks”.
• [Empow only] New Content Management System – Empow teachers are now able to edit tracks and their content from the “Tracks Library” page.  For returning curriculum editors, the process to edit content is extremely efficient compared to previous versions.  To edit content, click a track in the Tracks Library and select “Edit”.  Be careful editing currently-used tracks as the changes will be live!  Note that if you make a new track, it will be in “Draft” status by default, so save the URL if you wish to continue editing later.

• [Empow only] Schools page – Empow administrators now have access to a 6th tab in teach.talentbox.app, the “School admin” tab.
• [Empow only] Name tag printing – A bug was fixed where name tags printed from a session were skewed.
• [Empow only] Name tag director names – The name tags now show the director name instead of the name of the teacher who printed them.
• [Empow only] Easier Email generation – Generating an email from a session (in the “Actions” list) no longer creates an error related to logging into a separate website.
• [Empow only] Session file characters – It is safer now to upload files and folders with unusual characters into the “Session Files” tab in a session.  The unusual characters will be replaced with dashes.  Note that due to file system rules, spaces are also not allowed and will be replaced.  Underscores are fine, however!
• [Empow only] Landing page email help – When a parent/guardian clicks “having trouble logging in”, the resultant email will now generate information about the session, making it quicker and easier for them to receive help from Empow staff.
• [Empow only] Landing page manual typing – On the landing page for a session, parents/guardians type the name of their child into the box labeled “Child’s full name” in order to access their files.  Previously, an autocomplete field would appear with the name of the child, and clicking the name from that autocomplete field would complete the box form, allowing access to the files.  However, if the child’s full name was typed manually (no clicking the autocomplete popup), the files would not appear.  This has been fixed.
